Jean is a native of Columbia who currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She will be bringing a variety of paintings as well as jewelry to the show. She holds a BFA with a major in watercolor from the University of Tennessee and an MFA with a major in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia. Jean has experience in both water color and oils and her works can be found at the Tennessee Museum, the Tennessee Fine Arts Collection, the Blount Collection and numerous private and corporate collections. She has also been a featured artist at numerous gallery shows.
Sydney Robinson McClain
It was 1980 when Sydney started creating stained glass works as a hobby. Before long, people began asking her to produce items for them and her hobby soon became so much more. Having some background in art, she is self-taught and has also served as an instructor for others at Pickering Gallery in Nashville. Her works can be found in California, Arizona, Massachusetts, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, New York, Kentucky, Alabama, as well as England. Most of her time is spent working with interior designers, architects and contractors in the Middle Tennessee area. One of her most recent works can be found over the entrance to the Chapel of the new YMCA in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
2010 Art Effects Honors Mildred Hartfield
This year’s event honors Mildred Hartsfield, a well-known local artist and native of Loretto, Tennessee. Her love for drawing began at the age of six and thrived under the encouragement of her teachers and parents. While still in school, she began doing freelance work, including painting religious scenes on the interiors of caskets. When she married, she and her husband Wayne moved to Shelbyville where she was hired by Josten’s as a commercial artist and remained there for 12 years working on projects ranging from Christmas cards to parking meters. In 1974, she and her family moved to Columbia and opened the Lemon Tree Gallery, which she continued to operate until 2010. Her works can be found at the Maury County Courthouse, General Motors corporate headquarters, Maury Regional Medical Center, and in countless homes. She has worked in pen and ink, watercolors and oils. Some of her works will be on display at the event.
