MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES STROKE

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “Stroke—What’s the Connection” on Tuesday, April 7, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Georgetta Street, clinical nurse specialist for orthopedics and neurology, will discuss strokes and their connection to diabetes, conduct self assessments for risk factors and provide information to help decrease the risks of stroke.

“Around 5.4 million Americans have had a stroke with an estimated 500,000 new attacks and 200,00 recurrent attacks annually. Diabetes ranks in the top five groups of risk factors for stroke,” said Donna Shedd, RN, and diabetes program coordinator at MRMC. “Join the Diabetes Education Group this month to learn more about the connections between diabetes and strokes.”

For more information on the Diabetes Education Group at MRMC, call Shedd at 931.540.4324.
