MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES SUGAR SUBSTITUTES

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “The Scoop on Sugar Substitutes” on Tuesday, August 3, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Keri Howell, a dietitian at the medical center, will discuss the many types of sweeteners available and how they can affect blood sugar levels and other health markers for those with diabetes.

“The wide variety of sweeteners on the market today can make your head spin,” said Donna Shedd, diabetes program coordinator at MRMC.  “At the upcoming meeting, we will explore the different types of sugar and its ever-increasing crowd of look-alikes.”
