MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES FAST FOOD
COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “Do You Want Fries With That” on Tuesday, March 3, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room 1 at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.
Mindy Girouard and Keri Howell, dietitians at MRMC, will take a closer look at the fast food industry and its effect on America’s health.
“We eat fast food because it’s easy, quick and usually rather inexpensive. While many menu items are high in fat and sugar, more and more chains have added healthier choices that include meals that are lower in carbohydrates, fats, and calories. Some of these items can be surprisingly well-suited for diabetics, if eaten in proportion,” said Donna Shedd, RN, and diabetes program coordinator at MRMC. “The dietitians will discuss restaurant sized meal portions and the amount of calories, sodium and fat in certain fast food menu items.”
