MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES ORAL HEALTH

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “Oral Health” on Tuesday, September 1, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Brian Fann, DDS, a dentist with a local practice in Columbia, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting. Dr. Fann will discuss oral health and its direct relation to diabetes management.

“Research shows that there is an increased prevalence of gum disease among people with diabetes,” said Donna Shedd, RN and diabetes program coordinator at MRMC. “This adds serious gum disease to the list of other complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, stroke and kidney disease.”
