MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES NUTRIENTS

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “Cooking for Keeps” on Tuesday, September 6, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Kevin Kimmel, MRMC executive chef, and Mindy Ellis, a registered dietitian on the medical center staff, will discuss the best ways to prepare vegetables in order to maximize their nutritional value.

“Boosting vegetable consumption is an important step toward improving your overall health,” said Donna Shedd, RN, and certified diabetes educator at MRMC. “Some methods of cooking vegetables can lead to the loss of nutrients. Our presenters will demonstrate different techniques for preparing vegetables so that the nutritional content can be maintained.”
