Maury Regional to host gluten-free vendor fair October 6


COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will be hosting a Gluten-Free Vendor Fair on Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held in the William R. Walter Educational Conference Center, located in the MRMC Annex at 1223½ Trotwood Avenue across the street from the medical center.

According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, one out of every 133 people in America live with celiac disease, an autoimmune disease in which the lining of the small intestine is damaged from eating gluten and other proteins found in wheat, barley and rye. These foods include most grains, pasta, cereal and many processed foods. When gluten is removed from the diet, the small intestine will start to heal and overall health improves. 

“This disease is becoming increasingly diagnosed,” said MRMC Chief Dietitian Cindy Dugger. “Fortunately, we are also seeing an increase in food and other products available for those unable to eat gluten. This fair will provide a wonderful opportunity for the public to meet a variety of vendors with products or services for this segment of the population.”

The event will include free sample products and door prizes, as well as an opportunity to ask health professionals more about this disease. Vendors participating will include Breads by Anna, Cabot Cheese, Canyon Bakehouse, Chik-Fil-A, Crunch Master, Delight Magazine, Earthbalance, Edward & Sons Trading Company, Foods By George, Foods Should Taste Good, HomeFree Treats, Jules, Katz, Lara Bar, Lovegrown Granola, Mellow Mushroom, Mina’s Purely Divine, Moon Rabbit, Namaste, No-Gii, Rudi’s, Udi’s and Van’s.
