Marshall Medical Center to offer free "Diabetes and Eye Health" seminar

LEWISBURG, Tenn. – Marshall Medical Center (MMC) will host the first in a series of free seminars on diabetes on Tuesday, October 9. The program, titled “Diabetes and Eye Health,” will begin at 6 p.m. in the main conference room at MMC.

Dr. Jeffrey L. Jordan, an optometrist with Advanced Eyecare Clinic in Lewisburg, will discuss the relationship between diabetes and eye health. Topics will include the effects of high blood sugar and high blood pressure on eye health and when to see an eye care professional.

According to the American Diabetes Association, people with diabetes are at increased risk for complications related to eye health. The earlier complications are detected, the more successful treatments can often be. Those with diabetes or high blood sugar are encouraged to attend this seminar.

Two additional seminars on diabetes will be presented at MMC in the coming months. On November 13, a seminar titled “Understanding Diabetes” will be presented by Certified Diabetes Educator Donna Shedd. On December 11, a seminar titled “Foot Care for Diabetics” will be presented by Dr. Chuck Peter, a podiatrist on the MMC medical staff. Both programs will begin at 6 p.m. in the medical center’s main conference room.

All seminars are free and open to the public. For more information, call 359.6241, extension 3435.
