MRMC supports March of Dimes

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses will join with other area residents on June 8 at the Maury County March of Dimes Walk at Maury County Park. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. with the walk starting at 9 a.m.

“In previous years, we participated at the Marshall County Walk. Last year, the NICU nurses decided we would like to have our own walk here in Maury County and we were able to raise a little over $1,000 at that event,” said NICU Nurse Manager Trever Hawkins.

The nurses hope the new date and location for the NICU walk will encourage more people to participate with them.

MRMC Administrative Director for Women’s and Children’s Services Beth Himes said, “The entire perinatal health care team at MRMC values all the work the March of Dimes does for mothers in raising awareness, research and improving the quality outcomes to both mothers and newborns. Please come join us for this important walk this Saturday.”

Amanda Roland is a nurse in the MRMC Labor and Delivery Unit. Her son, Jake, was a patient in the NICU just over a year ago and will be the NICU team’s honorary ambassador at this year’s walk.

“As I reflected on the time spent in the NICU, I’m grateful every single day for the compassionate care Jake received from all the staff involved in his care here at Maury Regional and for organizations like the March of Dimes, whose research makes it possible to treat not only preemies but also other newborns or infants admitted to a NICU,” Roland said.

Money raised through the March of Dimes funds research and supports programs to eliminate problems that threaten the health of babies. To learn more, visit www.marchforbabies.org.
