COLUMBIA, Tenn.— Graduates of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Maury Regional Medical Center and their families are invited to attend the unit’s 4th annual reunion at Maury County Park on Sunday, September 19. The event will take place from 3 until 5 p.m. that day.

The celebration will include a display of current photos of NICU graduates. Parents who would like to provide a photo to be shared at the event may submit it to

Maury Regional’s NICU, in a partnership with Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, began serving patients in October of 2006. The eight-bed neonatal intensive care unit is staffed with four physicians, six neonatal nurse practitioners and 26 registered nurses specially trained to provide a higher level of newborn care.

Since opening four years ago, the NICU has served more than 600 patients whose stay in the nursery ranges from a few days to several months. The unit’s state-of-the-art equipment includes a cardiac monitoring system, ventilators, intensive care isolettes and electronic patient documentation for physicians.

“Our staff members become attached to the babies and their families, and, likewise the families to our staff,” said Diane Perry, administrative director of oncology and women’s and children’s services.  “It is so rewarding to see our NICU graduates as they grow and develop from year to year.  This annual reunion gives us the chance to rekindle the bond shared and celebrate the children’s developmental milestones.”

“It is comforting to know that Maury Regional’s NICU is staffed by dedicated physicians and staff members who have the skills and experience to care for premature and critically ill newborns.  This celebration allows our staff to reunite with these children who, as newborns, received skilled care in our NICU and to see their family members who were able to remain closer to home during such a crucial time.”

All graduates of the Maury Regional NICU, their parents, siblings and grandparents are invited to attend the reunion. Registration is encouraged. To register or receive more information, call 931.540.4281.
