Wayne Medical Center adds outpatient surgery to services

WAYNESBORO, Tenn. — Outpatient surgery has been added to the list of services available at Wayne Medical Center (WMC), according to CEO Harley Smith.

The surgery and recovery suite at WMC was recently renovated, providing a convenient and modern facility for patients who require minimally invasive outpatient procedures. Available services include general surgical procedures such as appendectomy, gallbladder removal, hemorrhoid removal and hernia repair. Many procedures can be performed using laparoscopic technology, which allows surgeons to make smaller incisions and allows the patient to benefit from a shorter recovery period. An experienced surgical staff—including anesthesia professionals and surgical technicians—assist in each procedure.

“We recently were pleased to add Dr. Lee Howard, a board-certified general surgeon, as a new member of our medical staff. With his addition to our team and the completion of updates to the surgical suite, we are now able to offer a convenient location for minimally invasive surgical procedures, allowing our patients to return to the comfort of their own home the same day,” said Smith.

In addition to outpatient surgery, WMC now offers anesthesia services for patients who need to be sedated during imaging studies such as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CT (computed tomography).
