Maury Regional Medical Center will offer a free prostate cancer screening on 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Northside Medical Plaza at 1600 Nashville Highway in Columbia. The American Cancer Society recommends that men age 50 and older be screened annually for prostate cancer. Men at high risk, including those with a family history of prostate cancer and African-Americans, are encouraged to be screened at an even younger age. Those encouraged to attend are men who do not have a personal physician and who have not been screened for prostate cancer within the past 12 months. Drs. James M. Fitts, Jr., Stephen H. Heffington and Anthony D. Khim, board-certified urologists on the medical staff at MRMC, will conduct the free screenings. Appointments are required by calling 931.380.4044.

Look Good Feel Better is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and offers advice on dealing with the temporary changes in personal appearance from cancer treatment. The program is intended to help the cancer patient “look good and feel better" by offering tips on skin and hair care. The program is held at 5:30 p.m. in the Women’s Center located in the Outpatient Pavilion. Space is limited so reservations must be made by calling 615.327.0991.

Celiac disease is a digestive disease triggered by the protein gluten found in wheat, barley, and rye. Gluten damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. When people with celiac disease eat foods with gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the small intestine.
