Diabetes Education Group to discuss heart disease and diabetes

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host their next meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event where registered dietitian Jason Mallory will discuss the “The Mind-Mouth Connection.”

People with diabetes are at a greater risk of heart disease and stroke because they often have conditions such as high cholesterol, obesity and uncontrolled blood glucose. The adjustment of dietary habits can help lessen these risks. Some of the topics Mallory will cover include the negative relationship of foods, eating foods you love, and getting rid of guilt while eating the foods you love.

“Is it possible to let go of a negative relationship with food while eating foods you love? Proponents of mindful eating say yes,” said Mallory. “Come join us and get rid of the guilt you may have with food as a diabetic.”

Private Dining Room One is located on the ground floor of Maury Regional Medical Center.
