Tips for Quitting

When you are ready to stop smoking, here are some tips for success:

  • Identify why you want to quit smoking. List the reasons and read these daily, adding to the list as needed.
  • Set a date when you plan to quit and write it down.
  • Know your smoking triggers. Being aware of what causes you to want to smoke can help you avoid these activities. When possible, avoid situations that you relate to smoking.
  • Drink plenty of water, which will help flush the toxins from your body.
  • When you have an urge to smoke, wait two to three minutes. The urge will eventually go away.
  • Exercise. Consider taking a walk, go to the gym or swim. Exercise helps to relieve tension and stress.
  • Stay postive. You can do this!
  • If you don't make it this time and smoke, don't give up. Try again.
