Neonatal Intensive Care

While many newborns are at home with their parents in a day or so, some babies need a higher level of care. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides care for newborns with a wide variety of conditions, including prematurity, infection and respiratory problems. Our neonatology physicians and neonatal nurse practitioners are provided by the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, one of the most trusted names in children's services.

Our highly skilled nurses and respiratory therapists are trained to provide a higher level of care for premature and high-risk babies. There is comfort in knowing that parents can stay close to home during their baby's extended stay. Parents are welcome to be with their infants and are encouraged to visit their baby often to aid in the bonding process. For more about visitation and other family-related information, see the NICU Family Guide.
