MASH program applications available February 1

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Students who will be juniors or seniors in the next school year and are interested in pursuing careers in health care are encouraged to apply for the 2014 Medical Applications of Science for Health (MASH) program. Applications will be available beginning February 1 and accepted until February 28.

MASH, which will be conducted June 9-20, is a two-week summer health careers camp for high school students interested in learning about health professions. The students interact with health care experts, such as physicians, nurses, medical technologists, radiologic technologists, dietitians, respiratory therapists and pharmacists. During the program, students learn basic CPR, casting and suturing, learn about physical assessment, medical terminology and much, much more. Exposure to different areas of medicine and health-related professions are an integral part of the MASH experience.

The two-week educational program consists of lectures, labs, demonstrations, hands-on application of principles learned and clinical interactive sessions. Instructional materials include slide presentations, video programs, computer-assisted instructional programs, mannequins and various laboratories, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

Applicants must be a junior or senior for the 2014/2015 school year and demonstrate scholastic ability measured by transcript and GPA. Applications will be available online at mauryregional.com.
