Specialists to speak at diabetes meeting

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Lance Freeman, M.D., and Annie Haase, M.D., specialists in endocrinology on the Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) medical staff, will be the special guest speakers at the January 7 meeting of the Diabetes Education Group. The meeting will take place in Private Dining Room One of the medical center beginning at 11:30 a.m. Dr. Freeman and Dr. Haase will be discussing the disease process of diabetes and will provide information to help manage the disease.

Almost 26 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes increases risk for other health complications such as heart disease, strokes, blindness, kidney disease, and damage to the nervous system resulting in neuropathy which increases the risk for lower limb amputations. The average medical expenditures for people diagnosed with diabetes is 2.3 times higher when compared to people who do not have diabetes.

The Diabetes Education Group meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month to discuss and share helpful information about managing diabetes and related illnesses. The meetings are one component of MRMC’s award-winning outpatient diabetes education program, received following rigorous onsite auditing by the American Diabetes Association and the Joint Commission. There is no charge to attend these meetings which are open to the public. For more information, call 931.540.4324 or visit mauryregional.com.
