Support Groups and Special Services

Breast Cancer Support Group

Women who have experienced breast cancer, guest speakers, and trained professionals provide support and solutions to problems. Meets on the third Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at Maury Regional Medical Center in the Women's Center, located in the Outpatient Pavilion. The group does not meet in July, August or December. Celiac Support Group

The Celiac Support Group helps people learn about products and recipes that help to maintain a gluten-free diet for those with Celiac disease, a condition that makes them unable to tolerate wheat, rye and barley.  Attendees include patients, their family members and anyone else who may be interested.  Meetings are held quarterly at Maury Regional Medical Center. Diabetes Education Group

Persons diagnosed with diabetes and their family members join together to learn more about the disease and its treatments. Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. at Maury Regional Medical Center.  For more information, call 931.540.4324.

I Can Cope

I Can Cope is a free educational program by the American Cancer Society that provides reliable information, peer support and practical coping skills to those facing cancer. The classes are taught by various experts on each topic. Some of the topics include Cancer Related Fatigue, Side Effects of Treatments, Communicating Concerns and Feelings, Nutrition and Physical Activity. Infertility Support Group

Maury Regional Medical Center hosts an Infertility Support Group meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the fourth floor classroom (combined meeting for November and December). Our childbirth coordinator discusses infertility treatments, medications, nutrition, exercise, in vitro fertilization (IVF), intra-uterine insemination (IUI) and much more. The infertility support group is open to any couple experiencing difficulty conceiving. For more information, call 931.490.7046.

Look Good...Feel Better

Look Good….Feel Better is a free, national program for women undergoing cancer treatment. Look Good Feel Better is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and offers advice on dealing with the temporary changes in personal appearance from cancer treatment. The program is intended to help the cancer patient “look good and feel better" by offering tips on skin and hair care. The program is held at 5:30 p.m. in the Women’s Center located in the Outpatient Pavilion. The 2010 dates are March 22, May 24, July 26, September 27, and November 22. Space is limited so reservations must be made by calling 615.327.0991.

Ostomy Partners

Persons with an ileostomy, colostomy, or urostomy meet the fourth Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Maury Regional Medical Center. For more information, call 931.490.4600.

Pastoral Care Services

Maury Regional Medical Center’s Pastoral Care Department supports the spiritual, religious, personal and emotional needs and concerns of patients, families and caregivers by providing appropriate pastoral resources. Care is available to people of all faiths and you may request to be visited by a minister of your specific denomination or a coordinator with pastoral care training. Referrals to the Pastoral Care Department can be initiated on behalf of any patient, family member or caregiver requesting pastoral care services. You may request a visit by our Pastoral Care Coordinator in one of the following ways:

  • Let your nurse know that you would like a visit. She will contact the Pastoral Care Coordinator for you.
  • Call 540-4243, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (leave a message if no answer).
  • Call pager number 353-0258.

The Pastoral Care Department is dedicated to help better serve and benefit the needs of our patients and their families.

Reach to Recovery

Reach to Recovery is an American Cancer Society volunteer visitation program for breast surgery patients. The volunteer visitor provides emotional support and also an educational kit containing a temporary prostheses and information. For more information, call 931.388.6525.
