06.08.2023

LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The laboratory at Marshall Medical Center (MMC) has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) following a recent on-site inspection.

“We’re thrilled to earn this accreditation from the College of American Pathologists,” MMC CEO Phyllis Brown said. “This accreditation is a reflection of our staff’s dedication to maintaining the highest quality of standards in our laboratory to ensure the most accurate patient diagnosis.”

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program has been in place since the early 1960s and is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. The program is recognized for its rigorous and robust standards.

During the recent review, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

The MMC Laboratory collects and processes specimens to assist in diagnosis and treatment for patients who are hospitalized or have an outpatient order from their physician for laboratory testing. Laboratory services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In addition to the collection process and test results that are conducted at MMC, some specimens may be transported to the laboratory at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia or another lab for diagnostic testing.

The MMC Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. Learn more at MauryRegional.com/MMC.
