Leave of Absence

A leave of absence (LOA) provides a way for employees who are experiencing certain circumstances to take unpaid time off work for an extended period and return to his/her former position when the leave ends. Common reasons for taking this leave, not to be confused with paid time off (PTO), include childbirth, serious health conditions, military leave and caring for an ill family member.
