Free screenings for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) will be offered on Saturday, June 2. Screenings will take place in the William R. Walter Educational Conference Center inside the medical center’s Annex at 1223 Trotwood Avenue, across from MRMC. Screenings will follow a brief presentation by Pulmonologist Maura Lipp, M.D., at 10 a.m.
Among the free screenings to be offered is the Alpha-1 test, a finger-stick blood sample used to screen for AATD. Fasting is not required before the screening. Other screening tests will include pulse oximetry to measure the body’s oxygen saturation and spirometry, a simple breathing test.
