When you or a family member is recovering from surgery, illness, an accident or injury, the therapy professionals with Lewis Health Center are ready to help you on the road to recovery. Our therapists have advanced training and certifications in physical therapy and speech therapy. Therapy services are offered to adults as well as children in our state-of-the-art therapy center, conveniently located on the campus of Lewis Health Center in Hohenwald. 

PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES

Physical therapists customize therapy programs for each patient, based on their individual health and mobility. Services offered include:

• Orthopedic rehabilitation, including therapy following joint replacement surgery
• Sports injury recovery
• Stroke rehabilitation

new: parkinson's disease therapy sERVICES

Lewis Health Center Physical Therapy now offers therapy services specifically designed to benefit patients with Parkinson’s disease. Therapy treatment is now offered through the LSVT BIG^® program, an intensive and high-effort therapy regimen designed to help Parkinson’s disease patients learn to move more normally.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that can affect an individual’s movement, such as walking, balance and coordination. Effects of the disease typically worsen over time. The four-week program has a goal of producing more normal movements by working on small motor skills – such as the hand motions used to button a shirt – as well as large motor skills, which are used for walking and balance. Treatment can be offered at any stage of the disease, but patients are encouraged to begin therapy as early in their diagnosis as possible for maximum benefits. 

Parkinson’s therapy is offered with a physician’s order; however, patients can request an evaluation to determine if therapy may benefit their condition. If therapy is recommended, staff members can work with the patient’s physician to obtain an order. Therapy plans are customized to the goals and needs of each individual.

SPEECH therapy

Lewis Health Center Physical Therapy offers speech therapy for adults and children. Speech therapy may include:

• Neurological (stroke, ALS, MS)
• Developmental delays for children
• Language for children

Scheduling a visit

Visits to our therapy center can be scheduled with with a physician order or through our Direct Access Program. Direct access is offered to those who feel that physical therapy may be beneficial. Insurance coverage for direct access may vary. Our staff can assist in determining your insurance coverage. This service includes:

• Assessment by a licensed physical therapist
• Customized physical therapy treatments
• Evaluation and progress notes to share with your physician

Our therapy center also offers free screenings for youth and adults, as well as free pediatric screenings that evaluate motor skill development, balance, strength, coordination and speech.
