PROSTATE HEALTH
The prostate is a walnut-shaped gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate is located beneath the bladder and in front of the rectum. Men can experience a number of issues related to the prostate, including an enlarged prostate, inflammation in the prostate gland or prostate cancer.
Urologists can diagnose conditions related to prostate health through laboratory testing and physical exams. One of the most common signs of a prostate-related issue is difficulty urinating because the prostate presses against the urethra. Men who experience difficulty with urination should speak to their doctor about whether the prostate may be the cause.
It is estimated that one in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. While prostate cancer is often a slow-growing cancer, it is important to have regular visits with your doctor to discuss your health. Some prostate cancers may be diagnosed and monitored for a period of time, while other cases may need to be treated through surgery. Often, an outpatient procedure can be performed as part of the management of prostate cancer.
If prostate cancer is diagnosed, you and your doctor will work together to determine the best course of treatment. If surgery to remove the prostate is indicated, our office will assist with a referral to a surgical specialist.

- ADT therapy - Androgen deprivation therapy for management of hormones in patients with prostate cancer
- Rezum – water therapy to treat enlarged prostate
- SpaceOAR placement - injection of a gel-based spacer prior to radiation therapy for men with diagnosed prostate cancer
- UroNav – an MRI-guided biopsy of the prostate for those with an elevated PSA or enlarged prostate
MALE INFERTILITY
A number of issues can be the cause of male infertility, or a lowered chance of being able to producing mature, healthy sperm that can result in pregnancy. A specialist in urology can help determine the cause of male infertility and recommend treatment based on the individual’s health.
Our specialists can provide a thorough health assessment that evaluates factors such as lifestyle and diet and includes a sperm analysis. This health assessment allows our providers to make recommendations. When necessary, our office will facilitate a referral to a fertility specialist.
penile curvature
Adult men who experience penile curvature such as that caused by plaque may benefit from an injectable treatment.
Maury Regional Medical Group Urology offers this injection as an outpatient procedure in our office to address curvature issues.
VASECTOMY
Vasectomy is a simple outpatient procedure that is available for men who have determined a desire for birth control.
The procedure may be performed in the physician’s office, allowing the patient to return home the same day.
erEctile dysfunction (ED)
Men affected by erectile dysfunction - also referred to as ED - may benefit from medications or other treatments. The specialists with Maury Regional Medical Group Urology can help determine the underlying cause of this condition and provide appropriate treatment.
Inflatable Penile Prosthesis (IPP)
A penile implant can aid men affected by erectile dysfunction (ED). The inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) is a surgically implanted device that helps men with erection issues get and sustain an erection.
IPP implantation is generally an outpatient procedure, allowing the patient to return home the same day. Specialists at Maury Regional Medical Group Urology can determine the cause of ED and determine if a patient is a good candidate for an IPP.
low testosterone levels
Testosterone is a hormone that can regulate several functions in a man's body, including muscle strength, facial hair and sperm production. As men age, their testosterone level typically declines on a gradual basis. Low testosterone levels can often be diagnosed with a blood test. Maury Regional Medical Group Urology specialists can provide testing and recommendations regarding increasing testosterone levels.
