Dot's Closet

In June 2022, the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary established Dot’s Closet, a clothing closet for discharging patients in need. The closet is intended to assist and lift up the patients it serves. It is also a way to honor the legacy of a woman who spent her life giving back to others.

Before Maury Regional Medical Center opened its doors in December 1953, Dorothy “Dot” Sowell was one of 127 women who gathered on the front lawn to establish an Auxiliary to support the hospital’s work for the community. During her 67 years as an Auxiliary member, Dot held the offices of president, vice president and secretary in addition to volunteering in numerous areas. In her most recent position, she served as an ambassador for the medical center. Dot was the Auxiliary’s only remaining charter member at the time of her passing in September 2021 at the age of 98.

To honor her, the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has established Dot’s Closet to support patients who need a helping hand. We believe clothing can open the door to a better future by providing the confidence needed to ace a job interview, to project a healthy self-image or to stay safe from inclement weather.

Now you can help us embrace Dot’s memory and make a difference in the lives of others by supporting Dot’s Closet. To donate, complete the following form. For more information, call 931.380.4047.
