FOUNDATION eventS

There are a variety of events designed to raise money for a particular project or fund. Some events are hosted by the Foundation such as the annual golf tournament and 5K, while others are hosted by outside groups who have chosen to support the Foundation. Below is a list of current events. If you or your organization would like to coordinate an event with the proceeds going to help others through the Foundation, please contact our development specialist at 931.381.1111, x1012.

Mule Kick 5K and 1-Mile Trot
The Foundation hosts this event in April in conjunction with Mule Day each year. Approximately 500 runners and walkers participate in the annual run with awards presented to top overall male and female finishers as well as two additional age ranges for those 40 and older and those 70 and older. Proceeds from the event help to fund special projects, such as the mobile medical unit that provides health services to at-risk and underserved populations.

Muletown Revue
In 2002, local physicians and musicians Steve Simmons, M.D., and Bob Thompson, M.D., launched Mule Town Revue, an evening of music performed by talented musicians. The 2019 Mule Town Revue was held November 19 with presenting sponsor First Farmers & Merchants Bank and proceeds benefiting the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation. Parker's Project
Parker’s Project benefits families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by providing books that loved ones may read to their newborns to provide stimulation and to promote bonding. Columbia educators Sondra and Cord Martin launched Parker’s Project following the premature birth of their son Parker as a way to honor his caregivers and to provide support for other NICU families. A fundraiser is held annually to raise funds to buy books that are personally delivered to the NICU by Sondra, Cord and Parker. For more information about Parker's Project, click here.

Shoot for a Cure
Since 2012, the Maury County Gun Club has offered recreational shooting enthusiasts a chance to put their skills to the test while supporting breast cancer patients throughout southern Middle Tennessee. Sponsored by the gun club at its property near the Duck River in northwestern Maury County, this annual event allows participants to choose trap or skeet in individual and team competitions. Proceeds from the event assist breast cancer patients by meeting their treatment-related needs, such as by providing wigs, camisoles and transportation expenses.

Tony Starks Memorial Golf Tournament
This event is held annually in September and named in memory of Tony Starks, a former manager at Maury Regional Medical Center who lost his battle with cancer in 2000. This event has raised funds for programs that include a cardiac monitor in partnership with the Columbia Fire Department, a fitness program in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Maury County, expanded medication assistance programs and much more. The tournament is a four-player scramble with up to 54 teams that are divided into morning and afternoon tee times. The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation will host the 2023 Tony Starks Memorial Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 21, in Maury County.
