Local students awarded college scholarships from Marshall Medical Center

LEWISBURG, Tenn. — Marshall Medical Center (MMC) and its volunteer association recently presented college scholarships to six local high school graduates. Each year, the medical center and its volunteers award scholarships to students who plan to pursue careers in health care.

For 2021, MMC awarded $1,000 college scholarships to graduates from each of the county’s three high schools. Recipients of the MMC Career Scholarships are:

  • Anna Gibson, a graduate of Cornersville High School who plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and major in pre-medicine
  • Claire Gillespie, a graduate of Forrest High School who will attend Middle Tennessee State University and pursue a degree in nursing
  • Blake Woodard, a graduate of Marshall County High School who will attend Middle Tennessee State University and pursue a career as a pharmacist

The MMC Volunteer Association also awarded three $1,000 scholarships this year. Recipients of those awards are:

  • Emma Evans, a graduate of Forrest High School who will attend the University of South Florida to pursue a degree in public health
  • Tatum Garrett, a Marshall County High School graduate who plans to become a labor and delivery nurse and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner
  • Lily Grover, a graduate of Cornersville High School who plans to attend Martin Methodist College and pursue a career in dermatology 

“Marshall Medical Center is pleased to provide scholarship awards to these outstanding students as they prepare for their future careers in health care,” said MMC CEO Phyllis Brown. “We congratulate these students and also thank our volunteers for their continued support of the scholarship program.”

MMC has awarded scholarships to area high school students interested in the health care profession for more than two decades.
