HOHENWALD, Tenn. — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Lewis Health Center will offer walk-in Wednesday mammography screenings Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. to provide convenient access for women. No appointment is required.
Approximately one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. The best defense against breast cancer is early detection. Lewis Health Center recommends all women who are 40 or older — or earlier for those with a family history of breast cancer or certain risk factors — receive a screening mammogram each year.
Most insurance plans cover the cost of an annual screening mammogram for women 40 and older. The Tennessee Department of Health will also be available during these times to offer free mammography screenings through the Tennessee Breast and Cervical Screening Program for those who qualify and are uninsured.
Those who prefer to schedule their mammograms at a different time may also do so by calling 931.380.4044 or 931.796.6222. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Lewis Health Center’s mammography services are accredited by the American College of Radiology, which represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. Mammography is one of several diagnostic and screening tools available in the Imaging Department at Lewis Health Center. In addition to mammography, Lewis Health Center offers MRI, ultrasound, bone densitometry and X-ray services. Learn more at MauryRegional.com/LHC.
