COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The 13th annual BOOOOBIE Ball, organized by Amandia and Chris Long, was a tremendous success, raising $11,483 in support of breast health services provided by the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation’s Women’s Center Fund. The event, which took place on Oct. 26 at the Lawrenceburg Elks Lodge, brought together members of the community for a fun-filled evening, all in the name of breast cancer awareness and prevention.
Amandia, a mammography technician at Maury Regional Medical Center, started the BOOOOBIE Ball in 2001 with her husband, Chris Long, as a passion project to raise awareness and funds for the Women’s Center.
“We are deeply touched by the generosity of everyone who participated in this year’s BOOOOBIE Ball,” said Courtney Lewandowski, development specialist at the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation. “Year after year, Amandia and Chris host an incredible event that demonstrates a commitment to women’s health in our community.”
The BOOOOBIE Ball, known for its costume party and silent auction, has become one of the most successful and entertaining fundraising events for the Women’s Center Fund. In addition to the event, Amandia and Chris Long also design, print and sell custom t-shirts every October, donating all proceeds to the foundation. Since its inception, the BOOOOIE Ball has raised nearly $76,500 for breast health services.
“Knowing that every shirt we print and sell — plus every event we host — supports someone in their fight against breast cancer is what keeps us going year after year,” said Amandia Long. “It’s hard work, but it’s rewarding to see the impact.”
The funds raised through the BOOOOBIE Ball provide critical support to breast cancer patients in need. The Women’s Center Fund assists patients by covering the cost of mammograms, wigs, headpieces, camisoles and transportation services for those who financially qualify.
The Women’s Center in the Pavillion at Maury Regional Medical Center provides a convenient and pleasant environment for women to receive health services, such as 3D mammography, breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and bone density studies.
