MAURY REGIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES CARBOHYDRATES

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Diabetes Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will host a meeting titled “Test Your Carb Smarts” on Tuesday, July 5, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 11:30 a.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Carbohydrates, commonly called carbs, are used by the body to produce glucose which provides energy. Carbohydrates are found in fruits and vegetables, breads and grains, milk and milk products, and in foods containing added sugars.

For those with diabetes, knowledge of carbohydrates is essential to proper diet management. Keri Howell, a registered dietitian on the medical center staff, will present a program on carbohydrates and the important role they have in diabetes care.

“Learning about carbohydrates is a necessary step when it comes to managing diabetes,” said Howell. “At the upcoming program, we will test our knowledge with a quiz designed to share the facts about carbs in a fun way.”
