Dr. Clayton to speak at Diabetes Education meeting

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Cheryl B. Clayton, M.D., will be the special guest speaker at the November 5 meeting of the Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) Diabetes Education Group. The meeting will take place in Private Dining Room One of the medical center beginning at 11:30 a.m. Dr. Clayton, a board-certified specialist in Nephrology and Internal Medicine will discuss the relationship between diabetes and kidney disease.

“Kidneys act like filters, removing waste products from the blood. Having diabetes can damage the filter system, especially when blood glucose is too high,” said Dr. Clayton.

At the November meeting, Dr. Clayton will explain how diabetes can cause this damage and also discuss the symptoms of kidney disease, how to prevent it and treatments for those with kidney disease.

The Diabetes Education Group meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month to discuss and share helpful information about managing diabetes and related illnesses. The meetings are one component of MRMC’s award-winning outpatient diabetes education program, received following rigorous onsite auditing by the American Diabetes Association. There is no charge to attend these meetings which are open to the public. More information may be obtained by calling 931.540.4324, or by visiting mauryregional.com.
