HEART HEALTH EDUCATION GROUP DISCUSSES TREATMENT OF HEART FAILURE

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The Healthy Hearts Education Group at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will discuss the causes and treatment of heart failure on Tuesday, September 6, in the medical center’s Private Dining Room One at 1 p.m. The group, which meets monthly at MRMC, encourages the public to attend this free event.

Heart failure is the inability of the heart to sufficiently supply enough blood to meet the body’s needs. Symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing, swelling and fatigue. Treatment of heart failure often consists of medications as well as lifestyle and diet modifications.

At the upcoming meeting, Ginger Earnest, critical care nurse manager at the medical center, will provide an overview of heart failure, including the causes, treatment and useful information for self-management of the condition.

“Heart failure can make daily activities such as doing laundry, climbing stairs and walking increasingly difficult,” said Earnest. “Although heart failure is very serious, many people are able to successfully manage the condition through diet, medicine and other means.”
