Walk-in care can get you back to enjoying summer

Summertime is best filled with vacations, outdoor activities and being amongst loved ones and friends.

If that fun is interrupted by a minor illness or injury and you’re in need of quick, convenient care, a walk-in clinic may be the best option to get you back to enjoying your summer.

“No one wants to spend part of their summer dealing with an injury or illness. If you find yourself in need of convenient and quick care, our experienced providers can help you get on the road to recovery,” said Mason Douglas, FNP-C, a specialist in family medicine with Lewisburg Family Practice.

The walk-in clinic at Lewisburg Family Practice has a team of family medicine specialists that provide care to patients, and no appointment is required.

Patients should consider visiting a walk-in clinic when dealing with non-life-threatening conditions, such as:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Sinus infections
  • Flu or cold symptoms
  • Bug bites or stings
  • Sprains and strains
  • Minor wounds (cuts or blisters)
  • Skin conditions (rashes or sunburn)
  • Non-life-threatening allergic reactions

While some of these acute conditions can’t be avoided, there are simple steps you can take to help keep you and your family out of the doctor’s office this summer. Always wear proper sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 when going outdoors for more than a few minutes and limit your direct sun exposure. Also, drink plenty of water so you stay hydrated.

“The summer sun and heat can do a lot of damage to our bodies if we aren’t being vigilant,” Douglas said. “If you notice the first signs of dehydration — extreme thirst, fatigue, dizziness, confusion and muscle cramps — or get a severe sunburn that blisters, you may need to seek medical assistance.”

Remember to consider a walk-in clinic for non-life-threatening conditions. If you’re experiencing life-threatening symptoms of any kind, call 911.

Walk-in care is offered at Lewisburg Family Practice Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The practice is located at 1090 N. Ellington Parkway, Suite 102, in Lewisburg.
