Compassionate Hearts
Compassionate Hearts is a program designed to support the spiritual and emotional needs of our patients and their family members. Volunteer Services will coordinate and train volunteers to work with members of nursing, pastoral care and social services staff. These volunteers will visit critically ill patients who have no local family and friends and provide respite to family members who need to leave a patient's bedside. For more information about the program or becoming a volunteer, please contact Volunteer Services at 931.380.4047.
M*A*S*H* Student Program
The Medical Application of Science for Health (M*A*S*H*) Program encourages young people to explore the application of scientific concepts to the health care field. Through a variety of experiences, the students interact with physicians, nurses, medical technologists, radiologic technologists, pharmacists and many other health care professionals. The program consists of lectures, labs and clinical interactive sessions, and is held during the summer. Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year in high school, completed one biology class, demonstrate scholastic ability and critical thinking skills and provide recommendations into the program from school personnel. Students must also complete an essay as part of the application process.
Applications are accepted February 1-March 1. To apply, click here.
Music Program
The purpose of this program is to provide appropriate, soothing music to our patients and visitors in an effort to help ease their stress and anxiety during their time in the hospital. Instruments used must be conducive to a health care setting. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for those with a musical talent they would like to share, and it is especially designed for those who work and would like to share their talents, but only have a limited time in which to offer their services. Hours can be very flexible for those who are interested.
Pet Therapy
Pet therapy is a program developed by the Maury Regional Volunteer Services Department to brighten the stay of patients in our care. Studies have shown that physical contact with a pet can lower anxiety, reduce high blood pressure and, in some cases, cause the release of endorphins, chemicals in the body that help to reduce the pain response. For more information about the program, becoming a volunteer or arranging a pet visit, please contact Volunteer Services at 931.380.4047.
Care-A-Van
Shuttle
The volunteers
provide free shuttle transportation to any building or parking area
on the medical center campus. The shuttle runs Monday through Friday from
7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and makes regular stops in front of all major
entrances. The driver may be contacted by dialing 931.698.5928.
