Auxiliary
Shortly before the hospital opened its doors in December 1953, the Auxiliary
was organized with a group of 127 charter members. Since then, the group

The Auxiliary

from the operation of the Gift Shop and coffee shop.
The membership
is divided into three groups:
- Active members who volunteer 100 hours or more a
year

Junior
Volunteers
The Junior Volunteer
program (formerly known as Candy Stripers) was established in 1955 with 54
charter members. Formerly a year-round program, it is now primarily a summer
program for youth in grades 8-11.
Applications
are accepted only during the months of January and February and are available in
the volunteer office, by e-mail at volunteers@mrhs.com, or can be
requested by phone. Interviews are conducted in March,
and those selected are notified. Mandatory training is required prior
to beginning work.
Junior Volunteers
are required to work seven of nine weeks (a minimum of 50 hours)
during the summer. They work in a variety of areas throughout the
hospital and gain valuable work experience and insight into health care
careers. Many former Junior Volunteers have pursued a career in the
medical profession.
Care-A-Van
Shuttle
The volunteers
provide free shuttle transportation to any building or parking area
on the hospital campus. The shuttle runs Monday through Friday from
7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and makes regular stops in front of all major
entrances. The driver may be contacted by dialing 931.698.5928.
