Wayne Medical Center Laboratory earns accreditation

WAYNESBORO, Tenn. – The laboratory at Wayne Medical Center (WMC) has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) following a recent on-site inspection.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program has been in place since the early 1960s and is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. The U.S. federal government recognizes the program as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

During the recent review, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“We are pleased that the commitment to quality demonstrated by our laboratory has resulted in this renewed accreditation. We commend our laboratory staff, Laboratory Director Heather Gurley and Dr. John Olson, the laboratory medical director, for this achievement,” said CEO Tyler Taylor.

The WMC Laboratory collects and processes specimens to assist in diagnosis and treatment for patients who are hospitalized or have an outpatient order for laboratory testing. The WMC Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
