HOHENWALD, Tenn. — Mammography services at Lewis Health Center (LHC) have been awarded a renewed three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Mammography is an imaging exam that uses low-dose X-ray to scan the breast area for any abnormality, including the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. LHC recently went through a comprehensive review process by the ACR to ensure its mammography program meets nationally-accepted standards of care.
“Lewis Health Center staff members and physicians make continual strides to enhance the quality of care for our patients. This renewed accreditation is the result of their focus on quality and safety. We are grateful for all those involved in the accreditation process,” said LHC Operations Director Hugh Bennett.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR practice parameters and technical standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
Maury Regional Health recommends that all women ages 40 and older receive a screening mammogram annually. Mammograms may be scheduled at Lewis Health Center by calling 931.380.4044.
