COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Nine area high school students recently completed a one-week program at Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) that provided them with insight into careers in the health care profession.
The medical center’s Volunteer Services Department hosted the 2022 Maury Academy for Students in Health (MASH) program June 6–10. MASH is an educational opportunity for high school juniors and seniors interested in health care careers to gain hands-on learning experience and exposure to a variety of medical professions and specialties. During MASH, students visit multiple departments and hear from several health care professionals, including demonstrations and interactive activities.
“Our goal with the MASH program is to help students find their passion and discover what they may want to do for the rest of their lives,” said Director of Volunteer Services Cindy Short, who coordinates the MASH program. “We want the students to have fun, while also learning more about all that health care has to offer. It is rewarding to see the students learn more about themselves during this experience and to envision what exciting things their futures may hold.”
Graduates of the 2022 MASH program include Kendall Adams, Audrey Franks, Josie Grooms, Jazmyn Hall, Michael Morgan, Ben Murphy, Jessie Novak, Kyla Overton and Gracelyn Solorzano.
