COLUMBIA, Tenn. — If addressing a nicotine addiction is among your New Year’s resolutions, Maury Regional Health can provide support.

A free four-session nicotine cessation class will be offered each Monday in January. Classes will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on January 7, 14, 21 and 28 in the conference room located on the first floor of the Medical Office Building (Building A) at Maury Regional Medical Center, 1222 Trotwood Avenue in Columbia. To register, visit the Classes & Events section of the website at MauryRegional.com or call 931.381.1111, x2445.

“While nicotine addiction has traditionally been the result of using cigarettes or smokeless tobacco, we are seeing an increase in the number of people whose addiction is caused by vaping products that also contain nicotine,” said Sharon Dobbins, a respiratory therapist, former smoker and instructor for the course. “Nicotine products are the number one cause of preventable diseases including cancer, vascular disease and COPD. As a former smoker, I understand the challenges of overcoming addition to nicotine. It’s not easy, but our goal is to provide those who attend the class with the tools they need to kick the habit and take control of their health.”
