COLUMBIA, Tenn. — On Thursday, May 2, the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation will collaborate with several Maury County nonprofit organizations to host a tailgate party and fundraiser during the annual Big Payback challenge, a 24-hour online day of giving presented by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

The Big Payback is Middle Tennessee’s dedicated day of giving and begins May 2 at midnight. Once the clock starts, anyone can visit TheBigPayback.org to make donations to participating nonprofits. A leaderboard on the Big Payback’s website will display giving totals in real-time as organizations compete for financial incentives and additional prizes throughout the day.

“Nonprofits do important, life-changing work every day across Middle Tennessee,” said Ellen Lehman, president of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. “The Big Payback has become an exciting opportunity for us to come together as a community to support their efforts and recognize the positive impact they have on our neighbors. It’s an easy, fun and meaningful way for us to show our local pride, give back and make an enormous impact in the process.”

To generate excitement for The Big Payback, the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation is co-hosting a tailgate event May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Columbia Fire Station No. 1 at 1000 S. Garden St. in Columbia. During the tailgate, local organizations will host booths that showcase their impact in the greater community, allowing guests to learn more about each agency’s work. Attendees will be able to make online donations to the organizations of their choice through TheBigPayback.org during the tailgate. Several food trucks will also be present in addition to live music and games.

The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation is organizing this local event in conjunction with Watershed Public Theatre and the Columbia Firefighters Park Fund. Other nonprofit agencies participating in the Maury County tailgate include Boys & Girls Club of Maury County, CASA of Maury County Inc., Center of Hope, Fresh START and Maury County Senior Citizens Center with additional organizations being added to the event page on Facebook as details are made available.

“The Big Payback is a great opportunity for people throughout Middle Tennessee and right here in Maury County to support the nonprofit organizations making a difference in the community,” said Joe Kilgore, executive director of the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation. “It is always a highlight to come together with the other nonprofits to have a great time while raising awareness for the work we are all doing.”

Since its formation in 2006, the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation has raised more than $2.3 million to provide health care services, support and education in a caring environment for individuals not otherwise able to obtain appropriate care. All donations directly benefit the community through the programs and services funded by the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
