COLUMBIA, Tenn. — The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation has received a $5,600 grant from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee designated to the Women’s Center Fund, which will assist in providing free mammograms, camisoles, wigs, lymphedema garments and more to those who qualify.

The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation was among 439 local nonprofits to receive grant funding from The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life in Middle Tennessee and beyond. Recently, the Community Foundation announced $2,664,888 in grants to those 439 nonprofit organizations as part of their 2021 annual grantmaking process.

Oncology Nurse Navigator Melissa Collie, BSN, RN, at the Maury Regional Cancer Center helps in the coordination of care, education, treatment and side effects for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Among the resources available that Collie helps patients navigate is the wig bank program offered through the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation, which provides wigs, head wraps and other coverings for cancer patients.

“This is the 11th year that the Foundation has received funds from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for a collective total of $56,600,” said Maury Regional Health Care Foundation Executive Director Joe Kilgore. “We are grateful, always, for their support as we serve the women in our region facing a cancer diagnosis. Through the Women’s Center Fund, we are able to relieve some of the financial burden facing these women during this very difficult time in their lives.”

The Community Foundation awards discretionary grants annually from its unrestricted and field-of-interest funds through an open application process to Middle Tennessee nonprofit organizations addressing community needs and befitting the wellbeing of citizens through valuable programs and innovative services. More information about the Community Foundation’s grant process is online at cfmt.org.

“The Community Foundation is honored to connect generosity with need through these annual grants and through other avenues throughout the year, but we couldn’t have the impact we do without the many nonprofits offering solutions to our community’s needs and vital services to our neighbors,” said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. “Thanks to the generous support of our donors, and the work of dedicated and talented nonprofits, we are able to fund solutions that address Middle Tennessee’s emerging needs and opportunities.”
