LEWISBURG, Tenn. — Marshall Medical Center (MMC) recently presented $6,000 worth of college scholarships to five high school graduates who plan to pursue careers in health care.
The first scholarship award was presented by the Marshall Medical Center Volunteer Association to Olivia Ferris, Neely Johns and Clara Thompson. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue their education in a health care field. Ferris is a senior at Marshall County High School and plans to enter the pre-medicine program at the University of Tennessee–Knoxville. Johns, a senior from Forrest High School, intends to attend the University of Tennessee–Knoxville and pursue a career as a neonatal nurse. Thompson will graduate from Cornersville High School and will be attending Clemson University with plans to study for a career as a pediatric surgeon.
MMC also presented the Marshall Medical Center Career Scholarships to Marshall County seniors Marlene Majia, Jacey Burgett and Clara Thompson. Like the volunteer award, each student received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue their college education goals. Majia is a senior at Marshall County High School and plans to major in nursing and psychology with a minor in neuroscience at the University of Tennessee–Chattanooga in preparation to later attend medical school. Burgett, a senior at Forrest High School, is planning to attend Middle Tennessee State University to obtain a degree in nursing and become a pediatric oncology nurse.
“At Marshall Medical Center, we are pleased to provide these scholarship awards to help these outstanding students prepare for future careers in health care,” said Marshall Medical Center CEO Phyllis Brown. “We wish them all the best as they begin this next chapter and strive to meet their career goals.”
Marshall Medical Center has awarded scholarships to area high school students interested in the health care profession for more than two decades.
