COLUMBIA, TN – Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) has earned accreditation for a program that provides support to nurses who are entering practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recently awarded the nurse residency program at MRMC with its Practice Transition Accreditation Program designation with distinction.
The ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program sets the global standard for residency or fellowship programs that transition registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses into new practice settings. MRMC is one of only 35 hospitals worldwide to receive this designation and only the second hospital in Tennessee.
A nurse residency program has been offered by MRMC since 2013. The 11-month program combines classroom and clinical experiences to assist new nurse graduates in transitioning into their nursing roles within the health system.
Attributes of the program that were noted by ANCC surveyors included a positive culture for new employees, support by all levels of leadership and a chief medical officer who fosters relationships between nursing and the medical staff.

I especially want to thank our nursing professional development leadership as well as the educators and preceptors who work diligently to ensure that our new nurses move safely into practice,” said Chief Nursing Officer Deborah Lumpkins.
