DAISY AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINARY NURSES
Maury Regional Medical Center values our exceptional nursing professionals and has adopted the DAISY Award to celebrate nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by anyone in the organization — patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians and staff — who experiences or observes extraordinary and compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes following his death at age 33 from auto-immune disease complications. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of patients and families. Since its establishment, the DAISY Award program has been implemented in more than 4,300 health care facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 27 other countries.
Recipients of the DAISY Award receive a certificate commending them as an extraordinary nurse as well as a DAISY Award pin and hand-carved sculpture representing a “Healer’s Touch.” Award recipients also receive cinnamon rolls for their entire unit as a thank you and a representation of the only food Patrick desired after losing his appetite while in the hospital — a treat he asked to share with the nurses who cared for him.
