Year-End Health Insurance Benefit Reminders

Life can be hectic and we often put off health care visits in the process. It’s important that you maximize your health insurance benefits. If your insurance offers a preventive wellness benefit and/or flexible spending account, your ability to use those benefits may end within the plan year in December so make sure you maximize your benefits before the end of the year.

Preventive Wellness Benefit*

Most health insurance plans — including Health Insurance Marketplace® plans — offer wellness benefits for preventive health measures, which often include annual wellness exams (adult and children), cholesterol screening, mammography, pap smear, prostate exams, vaccines (flu, shingles, pneumonia) and more.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)*

If you have a health plan through your job that offers an FSA, you can use these funds to pay for copayments, deductibles and other health care costs. Generally, this money must be used within the plan year. If you’ve been putting off care, be sure to take advantage of your FSA.

*Insurance benefits will vary by employer and insurance provider, so reach out to your insurance company to better understand the wellness and FSA benefits of your specific plan.
